Out of Sight, Out of Mind

Storage is one of the most important factors to consider when determining how a home will function and ‘live’. Pantry closets are becoming popular featuring a walk-in or corner pantry closet with generous space for food or appliance storage. Often times we think of closets as just that-storage; they can be much more! There are many things you can add to a small closet or pantry to make it more purposeful.

For example, an electrical outlet could be added to a closet to provide a charging dock for a wireless vacuum or drill. Add all shapes and sizes of shelving in your pantry to fit all your utensils and appliances; lazy Susan rotating disc shelves are a great way to utilize deep pantry shelving as well. Also, adding a light that comes on when you open the pantry door is a small and worthwhile cost.

Another purposeful yet fun home feature is adding cubbies in the mud room for jackets, outdoor accessories, or school supplies to keep things organized! While a pantry, mud room cubbies, or utility closet are not usually high on the priority list when considering the big picture of a home, you’ll be glad you gave your storage options a thought during the build process!
