Back to School - Mudroom Goals

Happy first day of school, Fargo!

There are two things we really love around these parts: 1. Fresh starts and 2. Organization. Back to school is a perfect reminder of both.

In custom home building, we get the opportunity to design awesome spaces that fit the lifestyle of our customers. In each home plan, we try to incorporate an organization hub – a place to charge an iPad, store the permission slips & practice schedules, set a car seat or pet carrier, hang a backpack or work bag and tuck away the shoes. Of course, these spaces need to be functional, but there’s nothing wrong with also making them beautiful!

Below are a few mudrooms that we’ve helped put together to achieve all of the above!

While each design comes together differently, there are a few highlights we suggest including:

Durable flooring: A water proof wood laminate flooring, luxury vinyl plank or tile all make for great options that repel moisture. While we are at it, we also suggest a great indoor/ outdoor rug that makes for easy cleaning!

Storage spaces: We like to include a coat closet as well as cubbies, lockers or a bench built in with hooks and, when there is room, a drop zone or charging station.

Wall space: Leave a little room on a nearby wall to hang a large bulletin board or chalk board. This gives you an organized area to keep you grocery lists, calendars, etc.

Good lighting: Natural light can sometimes be hard to achieve in mudrooms, so we suggest either a light fixture with multiple high wattage bulbs and/ or sufficient can or disc lighting.

Here is to spaces that help keep our families moving this school year!
